About Self-Reliant Backyard

Who runs this site, why it exists, and how the guides and reviews are put together.

Self-Reliant Backyard is an independent guide site about making a small property more productive: growing food, storing it without power, catching water, and keeping a few animals.

The site is run by Danish, who also builds and maintains the technical side. It exists because most homesteading information online is either vague lifestyle content or a sales page in disguise. The goal here is narrower and more useful: specific numbers, materials, dimensions, and honest trade-offs.

How the guides are written

Each guide is written from published, checkable information — manufacturer specifications, extension-service guidance, and standard practice — and includes one concrete element: a materials list, a calculation, a table, or a step sequence. Where a number depends on climate or soil, the guide says so rather than pretending one answer fits everyone.

These are not first-person build logs. We do not claim to have installed every system described. When a claim comes from the book we review, it is attributed to the book.

The review

The only commercial page on the site is our review of The Self-Sufficient Backyard. It is written from the publisher's published description, chapter list, pricing, and guarantee terms, and it states plainly who the book does and does not suit. We do not invent star ratings, testimonials, or testing claims.

Affiliate disclosure

The site earns a commission if you buy the book through our links, at no extra cost to you. Guides never link directly to the vendor — they link to the review, so you can read the honest assessment before deciding. Full details are in the affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, say so: contact the site and include the page and the specific claim. Corrections are made in the page itself, not in a comment thread.
